At first, I was just going to be an observer of the conversation but thought why not ask some questions? Can't be much of a participant if one doesn't actually get involved in the activity! After taking the leap to ask a question, my fear subsided once I received such positive and supportive responses. I asked a few more questions and before I knew it the chat time was over. This was such a good experience and look forward to many more chats and making more connections along with learning from others to enrich my personal learning and growth as a professional.
Tonight I participated in my first twitter chat! #ntchat It was such a great and positive experience. The chat tonight was to help new and preservice teachers learn more about PLNs. I asked a few questions myself and got some helpful responses. I have also started to follow a few new people and a few have added me to their list as well.

I believe while hanging out with my fellow birds on Twitter, I came upon some free professional development opportunities. I learned of SimpleK12 and the frequent PD webinars that they offer to educators on a wide range of topics. You can attend the webinars right from the comfort of your own home. There is no video interaction, so there is no need to look professional. Wearing PJ's is "A" OK with SimpleK12, in fact it is what they promote! Today, I participated in four different webinars:
I wanted to get student feedback of my teaching performance to add to my Teacher Associate and University Consultant comments. After all they were one's most affected my this experience. I had my Teacher Associates, Mrs. Andreas and Mrs. Cowie work through the survey with the students. I didn't want to be present while they were doing the evaluations because I wanted answers to be honest and not influenced by my immediate presence. After collecting and going through all the evaluations, I'd have to say my students were very kind. On a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being low and 5 high, the majority of selections were 4s and 5s. Many student's commented that I didn't need to do anything to improve. This is a good thing, but of course, this being my first real practicum experience, I did in fact have a lot to grow and improve upon. However, I was surprised that on a few of the surveys that I was only given a 2 or 3 to the question asking - Mrs. Leafloor listens and understands students' point of view; she may not agree, but students feel understood. I know I can't be perfect, but this rating got to me. I hope to be a little more conscious of this element when I enter into my PSII. |
